Director of Laboratory Medicine, CGH, Singapore Capere Surgical Systems Pte Ltd
Prof Aw is the Director of Laboratory Medicine at Changi General Hospital. Dr Aw completed medical studies at the University of Malaya in Malaysia and trained in internal medicine at the Singapore General Hospital. He obtained specialist certifications in Internal Medicine from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Royal College of Physicians UK. Thereafter he underwent further training in Laboratory Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia USA and is certified in Chemical Pathology by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
Currently, he is Director (Chemica Pathology) at CGH, a local hospital in Singapore, Clinical Senior Lecturer(Medicine) at N US and Adjunct Professor (Pathology) at Duke-NUS Medical school. At NUS (1980-2006) he was Professor (Pathology) and Vice-Dean of the medical school. He was Chief (Laboratory Medicine) of the National University Hospital (NUH) and Medical Director of Alexandra Hospital (AH) Singapore. NUH and AH were the first two hospital labs in Asia-Pacific to be accredited by the College of American Pathologists in 1994 and 1998. He was Professor (Chemical Pathology)at Monash University Medical School (Malaysia campus) and Hon. Professor (Medicine) at its Australia campus (2006-2011). He was a member of the MOH Medical Laboratory Board and chaired the Singapore Accreditation Council Committee on Medical Laboratory Testing. He attended the Harvard-NUS Program in Public Health.
He has published widely (175 original reports, 446 abstracts), delivered 345 lectures in 25 countries, and received distinguished awards. He is on the editorial boards of several journals including Nature Scientific Reports. He completed the SingHealth Certificate in Clinical Trials Management in 2006. He was the Chairman of the Bioethics Review Committee at the Singapore National Environment Agency. He is also a successful medical entrepreneur and has sold his medical companies to listed companies.
He currently advises Capere Surgical Systems in diagnostics and is a shareholder too. He has delivered several webinars for Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific ( COVID-9 : Fast Results for Timely Decisions) well attended by 2500 participants worldwide.
